Earley Springs is an independent specialist school supporting
children with Communication and Interaction needs, including
autistic children and children with associated sensory processing,
regulation and communication differences.
We recognise that every child is different. Our provision is highly
personalised and shaped by each child's strengths, needs,
communication profile, starting points and Education, Health and
Care Plan (EHCP).
At Earley Springs, we presume competence and believe that every
child has the right to be heard, understood, appropriately challenged
and supported to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Our Provision
Our curriculum is organised through three pathways, Explorers,
Discoverers and Investigators. These enable our pupils to access
learning appropriate to their individual developmental and academic
profile.
Teaching and support are personalised and may draw upon
specialist approaches including SCERTS, TEACCH, Total
Communication, AAC, Makaton, Intensive Interaction, Attention
Autism and Spelling to Communicate (S2C), according to individual
need.
Communication is at the heart of our provision. We recognise that
communication is much broader than speech and that a child's
ability to communicate should never be used as a measure of their
cognitive ability or potential.
Education, Health and Care Plans
For pupils with an EHCP, the provision and outcomes identified
within the plan are central to our planning.
We use each child's EHCP alongside assessment information,
professional advice and information from families to inform their
individual provision, curriculum, communication support, sensory
and regulation strategies and targeted outcomes.
Progress towards EHCP outcomes is monitored throughout the year
and contributes to the statutory Annual Review process.
Assessment and Progress
Every pupil has an individual starting point. We therefore measure
progress against each child's own starting points rather than relying
solely on age-related expectations.
We use B Squared, teacher assessment, observations, evidence of
learning and progress towards EHCP outcomes to build a
comprehensive picture of achievement.
Progress may include academic learning alongside communication,
engagement, independence, social interaction, regulation and
preparation for the next stage of education.
Working Together
We work closely with parents and carers, local authorities and other
professionals to ensure that provision remains appropriate as a
child's needs develop.
Where required, this may include working with Speech and
Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Educational Psychology,
health professionals, social care and other specialist services.
English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Earley Springs welcomes pupils for whom English is an additional language. We recognise that having English as an additional
language is not in itself a special educational need.
Where a pupil has EAL, we consider their individual language profile
alongside their communication, learning and SEND needs.
Appropriate support is identified through assessment and provided
through our personalised curriculum and Total Communication
approach, ensuring that pupils are able to access learning,
communicate effectively and participate fully in school life.
Admissions
Every referral to Earley Springs is considered individually. We
consider the child's EHCP, educational and communication needs,
required provision, curriculum needs and peer group to determine
whether Earley Springs can safely and effectively meet their needs.
