Who we are

Harriet Carter
Headteacher and Founder
Miss Harriet Carter is a passionate advocate for Special Educational Needs and inclusion, and the driving force behind Earley Springs. With vast experience in the education sector, including roles as a qualified SENCO, Assistant Principal, Headteacher and consultant, she has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing students with special educational needs. She has worked in a variety of educational settings, from mainstream primary and secondary schools to specialist provisions, giving her a broad perspective on how best to support children individually.
Miss Carter’s educational philosophy is rooted in the belief that all children, regardless of their starting point or specific needs, deserve the chance to reach their full potential. This philosophy underpins the core mission of Earley Springs: to offer a first-class education for children with special educational needs, fostering a safe and supportive environment that nurtures happiness, confidence, and individual growth. She is committed to creating a truly inclusive environment at Earley Springs, where every child has access to the provisions, curriculum, and extra-curricular activities they need to thrive, dedicated to identifying and nurturing the unique skills and abilities of each child, and providing hands-on learning opportunities that develop their knowledge, understanding, and personal potential. This vision, along with the very ethos of Earley Springs, was significantly shaped by Mrs. Earley, whose contributions were instrumental in transforming what was once a “pie in the sky” idea into a tangible reality. This provision stands as a legacy to the incredible sacrifice and dedication Mrs. Earley gave to the education system.
Miss Carter is determined to ensure that Earley Springs delivers on its promise, providing a first-class education that empowers students and prepares them for success. Her personal drive to improve opportunities for children with special educational needs is the foundation upon which Earley Springs is built.
